Textbook - what can I say?

It is a textbook that is focused on the importance of advanced degrees for nurses. This book promotes the value of the doctorate in nursing, and discusses the value of the RN getting a BSN & MSN. It is readable but dry. I purchased it for a class, and sold it when I was finished. Not a keeper for me.

Refreshing insight on Greek-American organizations

Mr. Fatouros has written an excellent and refreshing account of the corrupting nature of numerous Greek-American organizations, including the Archdiocese. I use the term refreshing because it is close to impossible to read such scathing criticism in traditional news outlets due to the control by individuals and organizations presented in this book as "PIMPS". The book is well researched with supporting references clearly listed, and is a wealth of information for anyone researching the organizations of this community (including hopefully a prosecutor).

There is certainly a degree of left-wing proclivity, but it is fairly metered with the focus being on the actual activities and illegalities of the subjects being presented.

A Good Starting Point for those interested in understanding Greek America's failure as a Community

Mitch Fatouros' "Greek-Americans Pimps" is a well-researched and well-documented book that is hard to put down. Using easily accessible information Fatouros puts together an almost unbelievable story that is sure to raise many questions inside the Greek America Community. For those interested in learning the disgraceful truth behind our community's "leadership" and Church, Greek-American Pimps, is an excellent source of information.

Although the author focuses on the illegal activities of those self-proclaimed "leaders" of a network of organizations with Conservative political leanings, I can only hope that Mr. Fatouros follows up "Greek American Pimps" with a just as well-researched and written sequel exposing those corrupt Greek-Americans with Liberal political affiliations.

Insightful and Revealing

For someone who has not been very close to the American Greek Diaspora, the book GREEK AMERICAN PIMPS, Charity Corrupted By Politics, Lobbies & Criminal Enterprises, was extremely informative. The stories, involving prominent figures, intertwine and are very revealing pinpointing social, political, and religious aspects of the Greek Diaspora completely unknown to me that have gone completely wrong in most cases for personal gain. I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to know more about Greek Americans and the ways that they have operated with stories evolving over three continents and a few Empires, and continuously affecting the current image and functions of the Orthodox Church, Politics, and " Greek-lobbies".

Wild Waters is a Wild Ride

My 11 yr old son has been interested in Rob Kidd's POTC and Young Jack Sparrow Series for 2 years now. It took us several years to find books for him to read that kept his interest. This series and the Young Jack Sparrow Series have done that. In his words Wild Waters was packed full of fun and excitement and he cant wait for the next one to come out. His level of reading is age appropriate and this series is getting a tad "easy" for him but the story and plot lines encourage his imagination. He and his friends are all reading them now (thank heavens we have the whole series which we've loaned out to 3 of his friends) and then they acted out the various scenes and made up new ones all summer long. He reads for 20-30 min at night before bed and some nights trying to get him to put it up to sleep is a chore. They are a great series of books as Ive said, even dad and I enjoy reading them so that we can ask him questions and be able to identify with something he enjoys.

I'm a big fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean and I this is great for my collection. The shipping was great, it got in time and it was exactly what i wanted. very disappointed

I wish I had seen the other reviews before I bought this book. As stated by others, there is no use of color other than on the cover. You would think a book subtitled using calico, batik and other prints would show the use of these materials but it does not. I too am a quilter and wanted to see the use of quilting techniques adapted to religious banner design but the simplistic designs of this book did not seem very creative. Nine of the designs are simply a cross design centered on a blank field. At least 20 others are words of phrases with either a stripe or a simple leaf applique in the background.

Well I have never written a review before but I just have to comment on this one. Don't waste your money! This book has a beautiful and colorful cover - but the inside is all black and white. The designs are very child-like - almost like a child's coloring book. The author thought it would be sufficient to describe how she made the banners - and we are left to use our imagination for design ideas. I'm a pretty creative person - but this book is totally uninspiring. I have never bothered to write a review before - nor have I returned a book to Amazon before - but this one is going back immediately.

I was excited to get this book as the cover seemed really inviting and nice. After receiving this book, I found that this book lacked a lot of design patterns. There is no color inside, patterns are very simplistic and lacking in design. I was especially disappointed because I was looking for a design for a wedding banner for my sons wedding and there was no section even designated for this category. The inside patterns were so plain that it did not inspire my creative side. I am an experienced quilter and was just disappointed that this book fell so flat.

About the Author
Roger Lancelyn Green was born in 1918 and lived in Oxford and at his family home in Cheshire, which the Greens had owned for more than 900 years. He loved storytelling and was fascinated by traditional fairy tales, myths and legends from around the world. He was a professional actor, a librarian and a teacher. His retellings include Egyptian, Greek and Norse legends, plus a retelling of Robin Hood. He also wrote many books for adults, including a biography of his friend C. S. Lewis, creator of the The Chronicles of Narnia. Roger Lancelyn Green died in 1987.

The Tale of Troy for adults and kids!

The Iliad and Odyssey were written around 2,700 years ago. At that time they were not written down but memorized! With the Iliad having over 15,000 lines and the Odyssey over 12,000 there are not many of us, yes even us adults, who would want to read all that let alone memorize it!

This rendition by Roger which includes both stories from the Iliad and Odyssey was originally penned by him in 1958. It is brilliant! I read this aloud to our children as we have been studying Ancient Greece these past two weeks so felt this would be a good book to include in our study and I am SO glad we did. They loved it and I learned a lot also so we are all a little more educated now!

There are a few sketches/drawings scattered throughout the book but I am not sure what they really added. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Awesome!!!!!

This is a good book for kids (like my son) who love action and adventure stories. It is wonderfully adapted for a younger audience by Roger Lancelyn Green, and gives kids a good basic understanding of the ancient myths that so influence modern cartoons in terms of good and evil.
